Product Details
Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor is a hardware control panel designed for multi-camera editing of breaking news and live sporting event replays. Connected to a computer via Bluetooth or USB-C and integrated with BMD DaVinci Resolve, it becomes a powerful workstation for operators who work in sports or journalism and need to transform replays into promos, opening titles and instant updates for social media. In fact, you can load interesting camera angles onto the timeline to edit, color correct and add various visual effects; thanks to the replay and editing functions, a single operator is enough to work on the replays, upload them to the timeline, edit them directly from the keyboard and then post them on social media: with Blackmagic Cloud you can even work on them from multiple DaVinci Resolve workstations!
One of the main strong point of Replay Editor is to use different HyperDecks to record on a shared archive, to which DaVinci Resolve is also connected which acts as a playback engine; this way you can add recording channels by connecting multiple HyperDecks to build your own replay system in HD, Ultra HD or even 8K and add storage if you need to work even faster. In fact, however, it is the DaVinci Resolve software that manages the playback, which is why it offers a very powerful editor that allows the collaboration of different users, color correction, the addition of visual effects and audio post-production.
Recording channels, storage, playback stations, editors are almost unlimited!
The control panel combines functionality for both replay and multi-camera editing. To create and broadcast the replay simply look at the viewer in Input View mode, press SET POI (POI = point of interest, a sort of marker based on the Time Code) at the crucial moment to switch from the display of the Input View inputs to that of playing the various clips in multiview mode. At this point, just scroll back for a moment, select the camera and press the RUN button to broadcast the replay. While playback is in progress, you can review other angles on the multiview and choose one to broadcast in sequence. At the end, the replay is loaded onto the timeline, then titles etc. are added. Instead of POIs, you can still insert various types of markers that are linked directly to the clips or to the timeline and are saved in the project every time they are inserted or shared.
The panel includes buttons to select cameras and edit footage quickly and efficiently. With the integrated replay on Resolve you can view only the cameras needed for the replay. For example, if you want to record eight cameras but only replay four, you need to load only the latter into the bin. Different users can load different cameras and make personalized replays from each location. DaVinci Resolve forms multiview panes based on the files loaded into the bin, and in shared projects it allows you to create various folders with different cameras in the same project. Thanks to DaVinci Resolve's Multi Source mode you can watch and play all cameras simultaneously automatically with the same Time Code.
From a hardware point of view, the new DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor has the same quality keys as gaming keyboards, spaced for easy identification, pleasant to the touch and perfectly reliable. The trimming keys can be used together with the large knob to obtain even faster and more precise cuts. The panel connects via USB or Bluetooth and the internal battery lasts for several hours.
In summary, the DaVinci Resolve Replay Editor is a powerful tool for managing replays and multi-camera editing in real time, offering a complete solution for television broadcast operators. You can reuse replays after they air and create engaging content for global audiences. You can insert transitions, speed changes, graphics, sponsor logos and even a scoreboard to create truly professional posts. You can manually slow down the playback speed to show viewers even more detail of the action.
Replay becomes part of the creative process like never before!
